“Multicolor” can mean two very different things. Choose how the color changes before choosing the colors themselves.
Rainbow / gradient
Dual / triple color
Simplified color-mechanism illustrations; actual transitions vary by product.
Rainbow: a journey through the spool
Rainbow filament changes color along its length. As the printer consumes it, those changes appear through the model. Transition length varies by product; a large print and a tiny print can look very different from the same spool.
For a small ornament, inspect the listing for a stated color-change length. A faster-changing version may reveal more colors in a small amount of material. Even then, the starting position on the spool matters. Printing several objects together also changes how material is distributed between them.

Coextruded dual-color filament places two colors alongside one another. Different surfaces can emphasize different colors, and rotating the completed model changes what you see. Curves, facets, and twisting forms can make the effect particularly visible.
This does not mean you can assign arbitrary colors to individual model features. It is an effect built into the filament, rather than independently controlled material changes. A normal single-extruder printer can use a compatible strand without a multi-spool color system.

Triple-color coextruded silk applies the same idea with three colors in the strand. Choose a combination with enough contrast for the effect you want. Closely related shades may create a subtler appearance than a combination of light, dark, and vivid colors.
Check the listing carefully: three separate rolls in a bundle are not the same thing as one triple-color roll. Neither is a rainbow roll that happens to contain three sequential colors.

Gold, silver, copper, and bronze-colored silk can suit trophies and display pieces when you want a more consistent color. “Metallic-looking” describes appearance here; check the formulation before assuming it contains metal particles or requires special nozzle hardware.

Choose by the finished object
| Your goal | Start by considering | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| A gradual progression through a larger print | Rainbow silk | Transition length and colors |
| A different look as you rotate the model | Dual- or triple-color coextrusion | Actual strand construction and sample views |
| A classic trophy or sculpture finish | Single-color metallic-look silk | Shade and surface photographs |
| Predictable placement of individual colors | A controlled multicolor workflow | Effect filament alone cannot assign colors to model features |
Photographs are examples, not guarantees. Lighting, model size, orientation, and print settings all contribute to the result.
